Luang Prabang is in the Northern Laos at the heart of a mountainous region. The town was built in the peninsular formed by the Mekong and Khan rivers. Many legends are associated with the creation of the city. It would be the site of a rich and powerful city. Luang Prabang was the ancient capital city of the power kingdom of Landan ( Kingdom of a million Elephants) whose wealth and influence were related to its strategic location on the Silk Road from 14 th – 16 th century. The ancient town of Luang Prabang was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.
